Other than talk about potential war, Russia has been busy with the newly annexed Crimea as well as continuing to fight for the control of the eastern side of Ukraine. Russia has deployed over 45,000 soldiers, over 100 tanks and over 1,000 armored vehicles in Ukraine and continues to push farther in to Ukraine. Since the annexation of Crimea, Russia occupies the entire eastern boarder to Ukraine and now part of the southern boarder. Many Crimeans were and are still in favor of being under Russian control. (Some believe it is because of Russia's close history with Crimea.)
Following Crimea's reunification with Russia in March 2014, NATO has been boosting its military presence close to Russia's border. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concern over the increasing NATO military presence. President Vladimir Putin believes that NATO is using the crisis in Ukraine to help revive itself.

This is hyped but I'd say rightfully so, it's a global issue and deserves attention as invading a nation and occupying it's territory is unacceptable. Russia is in a bind right now and thanks to the dropping gas prices is feeling the economic pressure from all fronts. Do you think he will push farther, or do you think it would be way to problematic and risky to do so?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be risky for Putin to go any further than where he is now with Crimea and Ukraine because NATO is right behind him in everything he does, and if he makes one poor choice, it could potentially be another war at hands.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I see neither side wanting to start a war for fear of China joining in and making it a global and devastating war. For now I see Putin just waiting this out and letting things settle down by themselves.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting how this was a topic of global interest but is no longer seen on the news networks though I'm sure many nations are keeping a close eye on Putin's movements and actions. This is a great example of news hyped by the media. I look forward to reading more stories on here.
